We are excited to announce that Wyndham Vale Primary School is embracing a new digital tool communication tool called ‘Compass’ as our primary method of communication between school and home.

How will Compass benefit you?

With Compass, you are able to:

  • Gain a better understanding of what your child is learning through updates

  • Access reports

  • Report absences

  • Approve consent

  • Make payments online

  • Update your email address and mobile number

  • Book parent-teacher conferences during scheduled times

  • Receive a digital copy of the newsletter

  • Monitor attendance

How can you access Compass?

There are two methods in which you can access Compass and we suggest both:

  • The Compass website is available here:

    This is the 'full version' of Compass which allows you to interact with all of its features.

  • The 'Compass School Manager' app (available on iOS or Android) is great for completing quick tasks.


Q. How do I report an absence?

In the website version of Compass, open the ‘Home’ page. Select ‘Add Attendance Note/Approval (Approved Absence/Late)’.

In the pop-up window, enter a reason, a brief description, the times that your student will be absent and select ‘Save’. Please note:

  • Where possible, absences should be reported in advance

  • All full-day absences must be reported via Compass

  • Lateness or leave during school hours for appointments, etc. are reported at the office when you sign your child in or out

Q. I have an unexplained absence in my newsfeed. What do I do?
This means that your child has been marked ‘Not Present’ by the teacher but the school has not been notified of the absence via Compass.

Click on the alert, select the 'unexplained absence' you wish to approve and then click on the ‘Explain with Note/Approval’ button (above 'Activity Name'). Enter the reason for the absence and click on ‘Save’. If you believe that there is an error on your child’s attendance record, please contact the School Office.

Q. Can a 'push notification' be sent to my mobile device when an item is posted in the News Feed?
Yes! Make sure you have push notifications enabled in the Compass School Manager app settings on your device.

Q. How can I view my child's reports?
To view your child’s reports, select ‘Profile’ on the homepage, then the ‘Reports’ tab. Once in the Reports section, click on the appropriate reporting cycle and you will be prompted to generate and download a PDF file of the report.

Q. How can I pay for and/or consent to an excursion?
From the Compass home screen, navigate to the ‘Events’ under the ‘Organisation’ menu at the top of the page (grid icon). From the Events page, a list of upcoming events and excursions will be displayed. Click the red ‘Process Now’ button to provide consent and/or payment (depending upon what the event requires). An online payment/consent form will be displayed. Complete all highlighted relevant fields and click the ‘Submit Details’ button.

Note: If the event has a requirement for both consent and payment, these cannot be done separately. Should you need to provide payment or consent separately, please click ‘Print Form (Offline)’ to complete the process manually.
