What is SWPBS?
At Wyndham Vale Primary School, we are committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. Central to this commitment is our focus on School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) — a whole-school framework that promotes positive behaviour, builds a safe and supportive learning community, and enhances student wellbeing.
Our core expectations — Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Honest — are at the heart of everything we do. Through SWPBS, we ensure these values are not just words, but clear behavioural expectations that guide our daily interactions and shape our school culture.
Our School Values
Respect
Respect means behaving in ways that show care for others, yourself, property, and the environment. We show respect by using manners and kind words, making healthy choices, and taking care of our belongings and surroundings.
Responsibility
Responsibility is about doing what we are expected to do and accepting the positive or negative outcomes of our actions. We take ownership of our learning, choices, and behaviour.
Honesty
Honesty means speaking the truth and acting truthfully. It’s more than “not lying” — it’s about being genuine in both our words and our actions.
Our Proactive Approach
Model – All staff use consistent language and a common approach to behaviour, helping students clearly understand what is expected. Staff demonstrate respectful, responsible, and honest behaviour in all interactions, setting a strong example for our students.
Teach – Students are explicitly taught what our school values look, sound, and feel like in different settings — such as classrooms, the playground, and assemblies — using our SWPBS Matrix. This ensures students understand and can practise these behaviours in a variety of contexts.
Reward – Positive behaviours are acknowledged and celebrated through our recognition systems, including tokens, awards, and certificates, reinforcing the importance of living our school values every day.
SWPBS Matrix
Our SWPBS Matrix outlines clear expectations for behaviour across different areas of the school. It provides a consistent framework that supports all students to feel safe, respected, and empowered to succeed.
By embedding SWPBS into our daily practices, we create an environment where every student can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Together, we build a school community that truly lives by its values.
Token Shop
Students have the opportunity to exchange their earned tokens at our Token Shop, celebrating their commitment to positive behaviour and reinforcing the connection between effort, values, and reward.
How Parents Can Support SWPBS at Home
Parents play an important role in supporting positive behaviour at school. You can:
Talk with your child about the school’s values and what they mean.
Encourage and praise positive behaviour at home.
Ask your child about the recognition systems used at school (e.g., “What did you earn your token or award for today?”).
Partner with teachers to maintain consistent expectations between home and school.
